Torii Hunter is a former professional baseball outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 seasons.
Hunter was drafted by the Twins in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft. He made his debut in 1997 and became a cornerstone of the franchise, helping to lead them to four American League Central Division titles. He returned to the Twins for his final season in 2015. Hunter signed a significant contract with the Angels and continued to provide stellar defense and solid offensive production, (2008–2012). He joined the Tigers in 2013 and had a career-best season in terms of batting average, helping the team reach the American League Championship Series.
Hunter was one of the premier defensive center fielders of his generation, winning nine consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 2001 to 2009. He was a five-time MLB All-Star (2002, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013). He was also a productive hitter, winning two Silver Slugger Awards (2009, 2013) as the best offensive player at his position.
He was inducted into the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame, a testament to his impact and popularity with the franchise.
