Carl Pavano is an American former professional baseball player who pitched in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a right-handed starter from 1998 to 2012.
He played for five teams including the Montreal Expos (1998–2002), Florida Marlins (2002–2004), New York Yankees (2005, 2007–2008), Cleveland Indians (2009), and Minnesota Twins (2009–2012).
Pavano was a member of the 2003 World Series-winning Florida Marlins, contributing with a strong performance in Game 4 of the series against the Yankees. He was selected to the 2004 All-Star Game in his best season with the Marlins.
Pavano is widely known for his time with the New York Yankees (2005–2008) after signing a highly lucrative four-year contract. His tenure was plagued by frequent and sometimes unusual injuries, leading to him pitching in only 26 MLB games over the four seasons. He was often derisively nicknamed “American Idle” by the New York media.
