Joe Girardi
A durable catcher who played 15 seasons (1989–2003) for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a key member of three World Series-winning teams with the Yankees (1996, 1998, 1999) and earned an All-Star nod in 2000.
Defensive Prowess: Known for his high baseball IQ and defensive skill, he was the catcher for Dwight Gooden’s no-hitter and David Cone’s perfect game. He finished his playing career with a .267 batting average and 1,100 hits.
Managerial Career: He transitioned to managing and won the NL Manager of the Year award in 2006 with the Florida Marlins. He later led the Yankees to their 27th World Series title in 2009 and managed the Philadelphia Phillies from 2020 to 2022.
Rolando Roomes
Playing Career: An outfielder from Kingston, Jamaica, who played three seasons in the Major Leagues (1988–1990) for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Montreal Expos. He was known for having an impressive combination of raw power and speed.
Breakout Season: His most productive year came in 1989 with the Reds, where he played 107 games, hitting 7 home runs with 34 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.Minor
League Legacy: Before reaching the majors, Roomes was a standout in the minor leagues, particularly in 1987, when he hit .308 with 21 home runs for the Double-A Pittsfield Cubs. He finished his MLB career with a .254 batting average and 9 home runs.
