Albert (Joey) Belle played for a number of teams including Cleveland Indians (1989–1996), Chicago White Sox (1997–1998), and Baltimore Orioles (1999–2000).

During the 1995 season he became the only player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and 50 doubles in a single season. He was a five-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger. He finished his career with a .295 batting average, 381 home runs, and 1,239 RBIs.

Belle was the first player in MLB history to break the $10 million per year salary mark when he signed with the White Sox in 1996.

Belle used the name “Joey” (a nickname derived from his middle name, Jojuan) through college at LSU and his first two seasons in the majors. Following a 10-week stay in a rehabilitation program in 1990 for alcohol-related issues, he requested to be called by his given first name, Albert, symbolizing a fresh start.

Despite his talent, Belle’s career was frequently marked by disciplinary issues and a “bad boy” reputation

His career ended prematurely at the age of 34 due to degenerative hip osteoarthritis. He homered in his final major league at-bat in 2000.
