Did You Know? What made Igor such a terrifying assignment for American League pitchers was the pure, violent physics of his swing. Standing deep in the batter’s box, González utilized an high-leg kick to time pitches before launching into a massive, sweeping swing characterized by extreme extension.
When he connected, the ball exited the stadium with incredible velocity, routinely landing in the deepest corridors of the left-field seats at The Ballpark in Arlington. He rode that breathtaking stroke to two American League home run titles (1992 and 1993), establishing himself as a marquee attraction during the high-scoring peak of the decade.
