Harmon Clayton Killebrew, also known by the nicknames “The Killer” and “Hammerin’ Harmon,” was one of the most feared and prolific sluggers in Major League Baseball history. His 22-year career (1954-1975) was spent primarily with the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins. Despite his powerful bat, Killebrew was known for his quiet and kind demeanor off the field. Killebrew hit 573 career home runs, which, at the time of his retirement in 1975, ranked him fifth all-time and second only to Babe Ruth in American League history. He led the AL in home runs six times. He had an incredible eight seasons with 40 or more home runs. He also accumulated 1,584 RBIs in his career, leading the AL three times. Killebrew won the American League MVP Award in 1969, leading the league with 49 home runs and 140 RBIs, along with an impressive .427 on-base percentage.

Harmon Killebrew  was a 13-time All-Star, showcasing his consistent presence among the league’s top players. He led the Minnesota Twins to their first World Series appearance in 1965, though they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Killebrew was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984 on his fourth ballot, a testament to his impact as one of baseball’s all-time great power hitters. His number 3 was the first uniform number retired by the Minnesota Twins.
