Thomas “Tommy” George Hutton was a Major League Baseball player whose career spanned parts of three decades, with his most significant time coming in the 1970s, but he did make his debut in the late 1960s. He was known for his solid defense, versatility, and later, for a distinguished broadcasting career.

Hutton played for a few different teams including Los Angeles Dodgers (1966, 1969), Philadelphia Phillies (1972–1977), Toronto Blue Jays (1978) and Montreal Expos (1978–1981). Hutton was primarily a first baseman but also played all three outfield positions. He was highly valued for his defensive reliability and versatility, often coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter.

His longest and most impactful period was with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1972 to 1977. He played a key role as a backup first baseman and pinch-hitter on Phillies teams that won back-to-back National League East titles in 1976 and 1977.

After retiring as a player in 1981, Tommy Hutton transitioned into a highly respected career as a baseball broadcaster. He worked for the Montreal Expos, ESPN, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays before becoming a long-time, beloved commentator for the Florida/Miami Marlins from 1997 to 2015.
