So Taguchi is a Japanese former professional baseball outfielder who had a long and distinguished career in both Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Major League Baseball (MLB). He was known primarily as an elite defender, a capable contact hitter, and a valuable bench/platoon player.

Taguchi played eight seasons in the majors from 2002 to 2009: St. Louis Cardinals (2002–2007), Philadelphia Phillies (2008) and Chicago Cubs (2009).

Taguchi’s MLB legacy is defined by his defensive prowess and his success in October. He is a 2× World Series Champion: (2006 Cardinals, 2008 Phillies). He is the first Japanese-born player to win a World Series with two different MLB franchises.

He is famously remembered by Cardinals fans for hitting the go-ahead home run off Billy Wagner in the top of the 9th inning of Game 2 of the 2006 NLCS, an iconic moment that helped propel the Cardinals to the World Series.

He played briefly for the Chicago Cubs in 2009 before returning to Japan to finish his playing career with the Orix Buffaloes in 2011.
