Mike Piazza is a Hall of Fame catcher widely regarded as one of the greatest offensive catchers in baseball history. He played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2007, primarily with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets.

Piazza’s career totals include 427 home runs, 2,127 hits, and 1,335 runs batted in (RBI) with a .308 batting average. He is one of only a few players in history to have over 400 home runs with a career batting average above .300.

Mike Piazza is a 12-time All-Star (1993-2002, 2004, 2005), 10-time Silver Slugger Award winner, 1993 NL Rookie of the Year and the 1996 All-Star Game MVP. In 1997, he became the first catcher in MLB history to record 200 hits in a single season.

The New York Mets retired his jersey number, 31, in 2016. Piazza was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016, receiving 83.0% of the vote on his fourth ballot.

Did You Know?  What separates Piazza from every other backstop in history is his unparalleled offensive production relative to the grueling physical demands of playing behind the plate. Traditionally, catchers who hit for power suffered massive drops in batting average due to fatigue. Piazza completely shattered that standard.

He hit an incredible 396 of his 427 career home runs while actively playing the position of catcher, placing him #1 all-time ahead of legends like Carlton Fisk and Johnny Bench. He compiled a sensational lifetime .308 batting average and a career .545 slugging percentage, including an absolute masterpiece of a 1997 season where he hit .362 with 40 homers and 124 RBIs—a baseline of run-production efficiency unmatched by virtually any player at any position during the era.
