Francisco José Rodríguez, universally known by his nickname “K-Rod” (for his high strikeout totals), is a Venezuelan former professional baseball closer who was one of the most dominant relievers of his era. He played 16 seasons in MLB (2002–2017) and is renowned for holding the all-time single-season saves record.
He burst onto the scene as a 20-year-old rookie reliever for the Anaheim Angels and was instrumental in their 2002 World Series victory. His 5 postseason wins that year tied an MLB record for any pitcher in a single postseason. He was selected to the All-Star Game 6 times (2004, 2007–2009, 2014, 2015). He was a multiple-time league leader in saves (3 times in the AL) and won the Rolaids Relief Man Award twice (2006, 2008).
