Barry Zito was a highly successful, yet often inconsistent, left-handed pitcher in MLB (2000–2013, 2015) known for his spectacular 12-to-6 curveball.

The Oakland Athletics (2000–2006): “The Big Three”: He was part of the A’s formidable young rotation with Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder. Zito earned the American League Cy Young Award by leading the AL with 23 wins and posting a 2.75 ERA. He was a finesse pitcher, relying on command and his devastating, slow curveball to compensate for a low fastball velocity.

The San Francisco Giants (2007–2013): His time with the Giants was marked by high expectations and eventual redemption. He signed a $126 million contract in 2007, but his performance was inconsistent and drew heavy criticism early on.

Zito became a crucial part of the Giants’ 2012 championship run. His clutch performance in Game 5 of the NLCS, when the team faced elimination, is considered his defining moment of redemption in San Francisco. He also pitched well in Game 1 of the World Series.

Ben Sheets is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played primarily for the Milwaukee Brewers over his 10-season MLB career (2001–2008, 2010, 2012).

He was selected as an MLB All-Star four times in the National League (2001, 2004, 2007, and 2008). In 2008, he became the first Brewers pitcher to start an All-Star Game.

Sheets was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout against Cuba in the gold medal game.

His career was marked by recurring injuries, including trouble with a bulging disc in his lower back in 2003, and later arm and shoulder issues. He missed the entire 2009 season following elbow surgery and his career was ultimately limited by injuries, leading to his retirement after the 2012 season.
