Mark Mulder was a prominent left-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) known for his dominant stretch with the Oakland Athletics as part of “The Big Three” rotation.

Mulder played for the Oakland Athletics (2000–2004) and St. Louis Cardinals (2005–2008). In Oakland, he anchored a powerful rotation with fellow starting pitchers Barry Zito and Tim Hudson, collectively known as “The Big Three.” This trio helped carry the Athletics to the postseason for four consecutive seasons (2000–2003).

Mulder’s career was shortened due to injuries, specifically issues with his rotator cuff and shoulder. He suffered a left shoulder injury during the 2006 season and underwent surgery to repair a partial tear of the rotator cuff, which caused him to miss the majority of the 2007 season.

In 2013, he attempted a comeback, signing a spring training deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. However, that attempt was short-lived, as he tore his left Achilles’ tendon during agility drills on the second day of spring training in 2014, leading him to ultimately stay retired.

Mulder, along with Tim Hudson and Barry Zito, was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.

Since his retirement, he has worked as an analyst for ESPN and has become a competitive golfer, winning the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament multiple times.
