Lance Berkman had a successful 15-season career in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a switch-hitting outfielder and first baseman. He was known by the nicknames “Big Puma” and “Fat Elvis.”
Berkman played from 1999 to 2013 for four teams, spending the majority of his career with the Houston Astros. Other teams include: New York Yankees (2010), St. Louis Cardinals (2011–2012), Texas Rangers (2013). A key component of the Astros’ “Killer B’s” core alongside Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio, Berkman consistently produced elite offensive numbers, recording an NL-leading 136 RBIs in 2006.
He was a six-time All-Star selection (2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011). He was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year in 2011. He led the National League in RBIs in 2002.
World Series Champion: He won the 2011 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals, a season where he also finished seventh in NL MVP voting.
Berkman was inducted into the Houston Astros Hall of Fame in 2020.
After retiring from MLB, Berkman has served as a baseball coach, including as the head coach for the Houston Christian Huskies.
