Craig Biggio is a former baseball player who spent his entire 20-year Major League career with the Houston Astros, from 1988 to 2007. Known for his versatility, he played as a catcher, second baseman, and outfielder.
Throughout his career, Biggio accumulated a number of impressive statistics and awards. He was a seven-time All-Star and won four Gold Glove Awards and five Silver Slugger Awards.
Biggio was a key part of the “Killer B’s” core of the Astros, along with Jeff Bagwell and Lance Berkman, who led the team to six playoff appearances between 1997 and 2005, including the franchise’s first World Series appearance in 2005.
In recognition of his career, Biggio was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Biggio is also well-known for his extensive charity work, particularly with the Sunshine Kids Foundation, a charity for children with cancer. He has been a national spokesperson for the foundation since 2003 and has hosted an annual baseball party at Minute Maid Park for the children. He also hosted a celebrity golf tournament that has raised over $2.5 million for the foundation. For his humanitarian efforts, he was awarded MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award in 2007.
