Craig Biggio, an icon of the Houston Astros franchise, had a long and distinguished 20-year career in Major League Baseball (1988–2007), all of it spent with the Astros. Known for his versatility and durability, Biggio played three different positions during his career: catcher, second base, and center field.
Biggio was a seven-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He was also honored for his sportsmanship and community service, receiving the Roberto Clemente Award in 2007. Biggio was a remarkably consistent hitter and a key member of the “Killer B’s” that led the Astros to six playoff appearances. He is a member of the exclusive 3,000-hit club, reaching the milestone in his final season in 2007.
After his retirement, the Houston Astros retired his number 7. In 2015, Craig Biggio was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on his third ballot, becoming the first player to enter the Hall with an Astros cap on his plaque.
