Did You Know?  Following a brilliant eight-year tenure in Boston, Vaughn entered the high-end free agent market and signed a lucrative contract with the Anaheim Angels ahead of the 1999 season. He brought his high-octane bat out west and immediately produced, launching 33 home runs and driving in 108 runs in his first summer in California, following it up with a stellar 36-homer campaign in 2000.

He eventually made his way to New York in 2002, anchoring the middle of the Mets’ lineup with another solid 26-home run season. While structural knee and ankle injuries eventually slowed down his high-impact frame in his mid-thirties, his ability to consistently hit for power in the most intense media markets in the country underscored his exceptional professional baseline.
