Maurice “Mo” Vaughn is a former professional baseball first baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1991 to 2003. Known by the nickname “the Hit Dog,” he was a powerful left-handed hitter.
Boston Red Sox (1991–1998): Drafted by the Red Sox in the first round of the 1989 MLB draft, Vaughn made his debut in 1991. He became a star in Boston, and in 1995, he was named the American League MVP after hitting 39 home runs and leading the league with 126 RBIs. He was a three-time All-Star during his time with the Red Sox (1995, 1996, 1998) and won a Silver Slugger Award in 1995.
Anaheim Angels (1999–2000): After signing as a free agent with the Angels, Vaughn continued to be a productive hitter, hitting over 30 home runs and driving in over 100 runs in both of his seasons with the team.
New York Mets (2002–2003): Vaughn finished his career with the New York Mets, retiring after the 2003 season.
Over his 12-year career, Mo Vaughn amassed 328 home runs, 1,064 RBIs, and a .293 batting average. He was a three-time All-Star and the 1995 American League MVP. In 2008, he was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
