Doug Sisk is best remembered as a key middle reliever for the New York Mets during the mid-1980s, particularly their dominant 1986 championship season.
A right-handed sinkerball specialist, Sisk had a knack for inducing ground balls, which made him a go-to option for manager Davey Johnson when the team needed a double play to get out of a jam.
While often overshadowed by the Mets’ star starters, Sisk was a reliable arm in the bullpen during their 108-win regular season and their postseason run in 1986. He became a polarizing figure among Shea Stadium fans; because he often pitched to contact and walked a fair amount of batters, his appearances were frequently high-tension affairs.
After his tenure with the Mets, he also spent time with the Baltimore Orioles and the Atlanta Braves before retiring after the 1991 season.
