Selected 1st overall in the 1984 January Secondary Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Sacramento City College (and later signed by the Atlanta Braves in 1984), Jeff Blauser was a cornerstone infielder and two-time All-Star shortstop during the Atlanta Braves’ historic 1990s dynasty.
Combining smooth defensive range across the dirt with rare home-run power for a middle infielder, Blauser anchored Atlanta’s infield through three World Series appearances (1991, 1992, 1995) and five NL Pennant runs before wrapping up his career with the Chicago Cubs.
Blauser was a key offensive and defensive engine during the height of the Braves’ 1990s dominance.
1993 All-Star Breakthrough: Jeff Blauser enjoyed his first All-Star campaign in 1993, hitting .305 with 15 home runs, 73 RBIs, 110 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases in 161 games.
1995 World Series Champion: Served as the starting shortstop for the legendary 1995 World Champion Braves, putting together a solid regular season (.384 OBP) and driving in key postseason runs.
Monster 1997 Contract Year: Turned in his finest overall season in 1997, batting .308 with 17 home runs, 31 doubles, and 70 RBIs. He earned his second NL All-Star selection, won the Silver Slugger Award at shortstop, and finished 10th in NL MVP voting.
Cubs Final Chapter: Signed a multi-year deal with the Chicago Cubs prior to 1998, helping Chicago secure the NL Wild Card berth alongside Sammy Sosa during his iconic 66-home run chase.
