Robert “Bob” Irving Elliott was a highly accomplished third baseman and right fielder who played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1939 to 1953. Elliott spent the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1939-1946) and the Boston Braves (1947-1951), also having brief stints with the New York Giants, St. Louis Browns, and Chicago White Sox.
Bob Elliott was the1947 National League MVP. He became the first third baseman to win the NL MVP award. He also was a 7-time All-Star. He accumulated 170 career home runs and 1,195 RBIs, showing consistent power. He earned the nickname “Mr. Team” from his Boston Braves teammates due to his leadership and all-around contributions. After his playing career, Elliott also spent time as a minor league manager and briefly managed the Kansas City Athletics in 1960.
This is a significant rookie card from the 1948 Bowman set. Like many 1948 Bowman cards, it can be prone to production issues such as poor centering and print quality.
