Ferris Roy Fain was a talented Major League Baseball first baseman known for his exceptional on-base percentage and defensive prowess. His career was ultimately cut short by injuries and a notoriously fiery temper. Fain spent the first six years of his MLB career with the Philadelphia Athletics. Fain won back-to-back American League batting titles in 1951 (.344) and 1952 (.327). In both seasons, he also led the league in on-base percentage. He was a five-time All-Star (1950-1954).
Fain was known for a personality as explosive as his play. His hot temper and off-field incidents were well-documented.
