Henry “Hank” John Sauer, nicknamed “The Honker,” was a powerful slugging outfielder who carved out a 15-year Major League Baseball career. While he started his career with the Cincinnati Reds, he became a true star and a fan favorite during his time with the Chicago Cubs, earning the moniker “The Mayor of Wrigley Field.” Sauer was a formidable right-handed power hitter, known for his ability to hit long home runs. Sauer finished his career with 288 home runs, 876 RBIs, and a .266 batting average. After his playing days, he remained involved in baseball as a coach and a scout for the Giants for many years.
