Edward Roebuck was a professional baseball player and scout who had an 11-season career in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a right-handed relief pitcher. Roebuck spent the majority of his career with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, being a key bullpen arm, particularly for the Brooklyn Dodgers’ only World Series championship team in 1955. He also pitched for the Washington Senators (1963-1964) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1964-1966) before finishing his playing career.
He was known for his effective relief pitching, often being a high-leverage pitcher out of the bullpen. Over his career, Roebuck compiled a record of 52 wins and 31 losses, with a solid 3.35 ERA and 62 saves. He appeared in 460 MLB games, with all but one being in relief. He had some excellent individual seasons, including an 8-2 record in 1957 and a 10-2 record in 1962 with the Dodgers. His best season by ERA was arguably 1964 with the Phillies, where he posted a 2.21 ERA with 12 saves.
After his playing days, Ed Roebuck remained deeply involved in baseball as a scout for many years, contributing to several organizations including the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Boston Red Sox. He was part of the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series championship team as a scout, adding another ring to his collection.
