Bob Horner had a notable professional baseball career spanning from 1978 to 1988, primarily as a powerful third baseman and first baseman.
He won the NL Rookie of the Year in 1978 after making the rare jump directly from college to the Major Leagues with the Atlanta Braves, without playing in the minors. He homered in his debut game on June 16, 1978.
Horner was named to the National League All-Star team in 1982 and hit Four Home Runs in one game on July 6, 1986, he became the 11th player in Major League Baseball history to hit four home runs in a single game.
He was known for his powerful hitting, averaging 35 home runs and 109 RBIs per his 162-game average. After becoming a free agent in 1987 and being unsigned in MLB (later attributed to the Major League Baseball collusion scandal), he played one season for the Yakult Swallows in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), hitting 31 home runs and batting .327.
His career spanned just 11 professional seasons, with a string of injuries preventing him from playing more than 141 games in any of his MLB seasons.
