For collectors of 1970s cardboard, Vic Harris is the modern-era switch-hitting utility player who bounced around several franchises and carved out a 9-year career in the big leagues.

He made his MLB debut for the Rangers in July 1972 after a stellar minor league run where he led the Midwest League in runs, hits, doubles, and stolen bases.

Harris famously holds a baseline record for starting his MLB career 0-for-36 before finally collecting an RBI single off Stan Bahnsen. Following his breakout 1973 season in Texas—where he played 152 games, hit 8 home runs, drove in 44, and stole 13 bases—he was part of the high-profile trade alongside Bill Madlock that sent future Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins to the Rangers from the Chicago Cubs.

Did You Know?  When Vic Harris made his Major League debut for the Texas Rangers in July 1972, he embarked on what became the absolute worst start to a career by a position player in baseball history. He went an agonizing 0-for-35 before finally scratching out an RBI single, a record for dynamic futility that still stands today. Despite the brutal introductory slump, his incredible athleticism kept him in the Big Leagues for nearly a decade as a premier, versatile utility man.
