Ron Darling is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for 13 seasons, from 1983 to 1995. He is also a well-known television sports color commentator.
Darling played for the New York Mets (1983-1991), Montreal Expos (1991), and Oakland Athletics (1991-1995). He attended Yale University, where he was a two-time All-American and was elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024.
He was a member of the 1986 New York Mets team that won the World Series. He started three games in the series and had a 1.53 ERA. He was selected to the National League All-Star team in 1985. Darling won the Gold Glove Award for pitchers in 1989, becoming the first Mets pitcher to do so.
After retiring from playing, Darling began a career in sports broadcasting in 2000. He has worked for several networks and is currently a color commentator for the Mets on SNY and WPIX, as well as for TBS’s national baseball coverage and MLB Network. He has won an Emmy Award as Best Sports Analyst for his work on the Mets broadcasts.
