Al Leiter, born Alois Terry Leiter, was a left-handed pitcher who had a successful 19-year career in Major League Baseball from 1987 to 2005. Drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 1984 amateur draft, Leiter made his big-league debut with the team in 1987. His career included stints with the Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins, and New York Mets.
Leiter was a two-time All-Star and a member of three World Series-winning teams: the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993, and the Florida Marlins in 1997. He pitched the first no-hitter in Florida Marlins history on May 11, 1996. One of his best seasons came with the Mets in 1998, where he won 17 games and posted a career-best 2.47 ERA, finishing sixth in the National League Cy Young Award voting.
After his playing career, Leiter transitioned to a career as a television sports commentator and analyst for networks like YES Network and the MLB Network.
