Randy Johnson, nicknamed “The Big Unit” due to his imposing 6-foot-10 height, is a former professional baseball pitcher who played for 22 seasons. He is widely considered one of the greatest left-handed pitchers in baseball history.

Johnson’s career spanned from 1988 to 2009, during which he played for several teams, including the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants. A highlight of his career came with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he signed a four-year deal and won four consecutive National League Cy Young Awards from 1999 to 2002. He also helped lead the Diamondbacks to their first and only World Series title in 2001, sharing the World Series MVP award with Curt Schilling.

Throughout his career, Johnson achieved numerous milestones. He was a 10-time All-Star, won five Cy Young Awards (one in the American League and four in the National League), and a pitching Triple Crown in 2002.

Johnson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 on his first ballot.

Did You Know?  Early on, Johnson led the league in walks as he struggled to control his massive wingspan. But after a legendary mid-season bullpen session with Nolan Ryan in 1992, Johnson adjusted his landing foot and found his mechanical release point. The results were immediate and terrifying. He captured his first American League Cy Young Award in 1995 with an 18-2 record, leading the Mariners to their historic first postseason berth. Over his ten-year run in Seattle, he completely dominated the league, routinely racking up over 300 strikeouts a season and establishing his trademark slider as one of the most unhittable pitches in baseball history.
