Set Notes: 1989 Score baseball cards feature lots of colors and had a more advanced design feel than other similar year sets. The colorful design is something Score continued throughout the late 80’s and early 90s. This set features a high quality photo on the front with a color boarder, player name, team and position within a bottom banner. The backs feature a player headshot photo and stats. One thing Score stands out for is their well designed cards both front and back. Like most sets from this era over printing has lead to low values, but you can find a nice rookie lineup and the Ken Griffey Jr. rookie in the traded/update set.
Key Rookies From 1989 Score: 625 – Gary Sheffield | 645– Randy Johnson | 100T – Ken Griffey Jr.

Overview of 1989 Score Baseball Cards
Despite the era’s overproduction, the 1989 Score set remains a popular and notable collection due to its design, key rookie cards, and various error cards.
Set Design and Features: The main 1989 Score set consists of 660 standard-sized cards. Each card features a color likeness of a player on the front, with the company logo and player information placed within a baseball diamond-style logo at the bottom. The fronts are framed by a white border and one of six different inner border colors. The card backs include another player photo, biographical information, and career statistics. The set also includes subsets such as “Rookie Prospects” and “Highlights,” which feature cards of up-and-coming players and significant moments from the previous season.
Key Rookies: While most cards from the 1989 Score set are not highly valuable due to overproduction, several rookie cards are particularly sought after by collectors.
The set is famous for its rookie cards of future stars and Hall of Famers. Key rookie cards include Craig Biggio, John Smoltz, Gary Sheffield.
The 1989 Score Traded Set: In addition to the main set, Score released a “Rookie & Traded” set in 1989. This 110-card set, issued in factory-sealed form, features players who were traded or called up to the majors during the season. This set is particularly notable for the Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card (#100T), which is a key card from this era of collecting. Other important cards in the Traded set include rookie cards for Joey Belle (listed as Albert Belle) and an updated card for Randy Johnson (#77T), who had been traded to the Seattle Mariners.
