Frank Thomas, nicknamed “The Big Hurt,” is a former professional baseball player who was a dominant hitter for nearly two decades.

Thomas played in Major League Baseball from 1990 to 2008. He spent the majority of his career with the Chicago White Sox (1990–2005), and also played for the Oakland Athletics (2006, 2008) and the Toronto Blue Jays (2007–2008). He was primarily a designated hitter and first baseman.

He won back-to-back American League MVP awards in 1993 and 1994, becoming the 11th player in history to win consecutive MVP awards. He was a member of the Chicago White Sox 2005 World Series championship team. He was selected as an All-Star five times (1993–1997). Thomas won the Silver Slugger Award four times (1991, 1993, 1994, 2000) and won the American League batting title in 1997 with a .347 average.

Frank Thomas was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, in his first year of eligibility.

Other Frank Thomas Rookie Cards:

Which Frank Thomas rookie card is most valuable?

Frank Thomas has several highly sought-after rookie cards from the 1990 baseball card sets. The value of these cards depends heavily on their condition, as graded cards (especially those in high grades like PSA 10 or BGS 9.5/10) command significantly higher prices.

The most valuable and desirable by far is the 1990 Topps Frank Thomas No Name on Front (NNOF) Error Card (#414), not to be confused with the standard release card from this year. This card is so highly sought after because of a significant printing error. A small number of cards were released without Thomas’s name printed on the front. This error makes it incredibly rare. The value of this card in top grades, especially a PSA 10 (Gem Mint), can fetch tens of thousands of dollars, with some sales reaching over six figures. Even in lower grades, it commands prices in the thousands.

When we talk regular release baseball cards with out errors, the 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas #300 is his most sought after and valuable. While not anywhere as rare as the Topps NNOF error, this Leaf set card was considered a premium release at the time, featuring higher quality card stock and photography compared to other sets of the era. Frank Thomas’s Leaf rookie is a classic and widely recognized card.
