Manufacturer: Donruss
Set Size: 770 Cards
Card Size: 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”
Set Notes: 1991 Donruss baseball cards were printed at the peak of the “Junk Wax” era. These cards are so over produced that little value remains in even the top rookie cards. However this set is nostalgic for collectors who were kids in the early 90s. The 1991 Donruss cards are a colorful set releases in 2 series. Series one has a blue boarder background with colorful lines and splatter design. Players name is within a red banner at bottom with team logo just above. A large player photo is center and position is below the player name in a blue banner. Series two is the same only using green in place of the blue background. Backs are either solid blue or green depending on series with player stats.

Overview of 1991 Donruss Baseball Cards
The 1991 Donruss baseball card set is a well-known example from the “Junk Wax Era” of card collecting, a period characterized by mass production that resulted in low overall value for many cards. Despite this, the set is notable for a few key reasons.
Set Composition and Design: The set contains 770 cards, divided into two series.
Series 1 cards (1-386) have a blue border.
Series 2 cards (387-770) have a green border.
The card design is quintessential early ’90s, with a prominent border.
The set includes several subsets:
- Diamond Kings: Features top players in stylized artwork.
- Rated Rookies: Highlights promising young players.
- All-Stars and MVPs
- Bonus Cards: A 22-card insert set.
- Grand Slammers: A 14-card insert set.
(Rookiecardprices.com only shows values for regular base set cards. No prices are shown for errors, parallels, subsets, misprints or other cards unless noted.)
Inserts and Variations:
1991 Donruss Elite: This is the most significant insert set from this release. The 10-card set is notable for being one of the first serial-numbered, pack-issued insert sets in the hobby. The cards have print runs from 5,000 to 10,000 and feature metallic-bordered designs. The scarcity of these cards compared to the mass-produced base set makes them the most sought-after cards from the 1991 Donruss line.
Due to the massive print run, most 1991 Donruss cards are readily available and hold little value. Complete sets and sealed boxes are common and can be purchased for low prices. The exception to this are the aforementioned 1991 Donruss Elite cards, which are more difficult to find and have higher value, particularly in high-grade condition.
