Manny Ramirez is a former professional baseball outfielder from the Dominican Republic who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 seasons. He is known for being one of the most talented and feared right-handed hitters of his generation, as well as for his eccentric personality, often referred to as “Manny being Manny.”
Over his career, Ramirez established himself as one of the game’s top sluggers. His impressive career statistics include: 555 home runs, 1,831 runs batted in (RBI) and a .312 career batting average.
A key part of his career was his time with the Boston Red Sox, where he played a pivotal role in the team’s historic 2004 World Series victory, which ended the team’s 86-year championship drought. He was named the World Series MVP that year.
Throughout his career, Ramirez collected numerous accolades. He was a 12-time All-Star (1995, 1998–2008), 2-time World Series champion (2004, 2007), 9-time Silver Slugger Award winner and 2-time AL Hank Aaron Award winner (1999, 2004).
Despite his on-field success, Ramirez’s career was also marked by controversy, including multiple suspensions for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Did You Know? What made Ramirez such an unforgettable icon was the fascinating contrast between his eccentric, unpredictable personality off the field and his clinical, flawless genius inside the batter’s box. Whether high-fiving a fan in mid-play or briefly disappearing inside the Green Monster’s manual scoreboard during a pitching change, his antics became legendary.
Yet, when he stepped up to the plate, his focus was unmatched. Manny used a wide, completely quiet stance, keeping his weight perfectly balanced over his back leg before exploding through the zone with exceptional extension. He refused to chase bad pitches, drawing 1,329 career walks and ensuring he was always in a position to hit the ball hard to all fields.
