Pedro Martinez is a former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1992 to 2009.
He played for five teams during his career, most notably the Boston Red Sox from 1998 to 2004. Other teams include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Martinez was an eight-time All-Star and won three Cy Young Awards (1997, 1999, 2000). He was also the first Dominican to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame, in 2015. His peak came from 1997 to 2003. In 1999, he won the American League pitching Triple Crown.
Martinez was known for his command and a diverse arsenal of pitches, including a high-velocity four-seam fastball, a two-seamer, and a cut fastball. His changeup is often cited as one of the best of all time.
Martinez won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, ending an 86-year championship drought for the franchise.
