Johnny Damon is a former professional baseball outfielder known for his distinctive “caveman” look—long hair and a full beard—and for being a key player on two different World Series-winning teams that were fierce rivals.
Damon had an 18-year career in Major League Baseball (1995–2012), playing for seven different teams: Kansas City Royals (1995–2000): Drafted by the Royals in 1992, he made his MLB debut in 1995 and established himself as a speedy leadoff hitter. Oakland Athletics (2001): He was part of the A’s team featured in the book and movie Moneyball. Boston Red Sox (2002–2005): This is where he became a baseball icon. As a fan favorite and a leader on the team, he played a crucial role in the Red Sox’s historic 2004 World Series win, which broke the “Curse of the Bambino.” New York Yankees (2006–2009), Detroit Tigers (2010), Tampa Bay Rays (2011), and Cleveland Indians (2012): Damon finished his career as a journeyman, playing for these three teams in his final seasons.
Since retiring, Damon has remained in the public eye. He has been involved in various business ventures, including launching an all-natural sports drink company. He is also a national spokesman for the Wounded Warrior Project.
