Chan Ho Park is a former professional baseball pitcher from South Korea who played for 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is a significant figure in baseball history, most notably for being the first South Korean-born player to play in the MLB.
Park was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1994. He made his MLB debut that same year, becoming a trailblazer for South Korean players. He enjoyed his greatest success with the Dodgers, where he became a prominent starting pitcher and was named an All-Star in 2001.
After his time with the Rangers, Park became a well-traveled veteran, pitching for a number of teams including the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Pirates. After his MLB career, he also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan and the KBO League in South Korea.
Park is celebrated for breaking barriers as the first South Korean player in MLB, which paved the way for many others to follow.
Park’s career was one of highs and lows, but his pioneering role and statistical achievements have left a lasting legacy in the game.
