McDavid was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round of the 1989 MLB Draft. He played in the minor leagues for several years and was considered a top prospect in baseball in 1992, 1993, and 1994.
He made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres on July 15, 1994. He played in MLB for two seasons, 1994 and 1995, both with the Padres. His last MLB appearance was in October of 1995.
