Alex Rodriguez, often known as A-Rod, is a former American professional baseball infielder who played for 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Rodriguez was drafted first overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 1993 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut at just 18 years old and quickly became a superstar shortstop, winning the American League batting title in 1996.

In 2001, he signed a then-record-breaking 10-year, $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers, where he continued his prodigious home run production and won his first MVP award in 2003. He was later traded to the New York Yankees in 2004, where he transitioned to third base. With the Yankees, he won two more MVP awards (2005, 2007) and was a key member of the team that won the 2009 World Series. He was a 14-time All-Star, won three AL MVP Awards, two Gold Glove Awards, and ten Silver Slugger Awards.  In 1998, he became just the third player in MLB history to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season.

In 2009, Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) from 2001 to 2003 while with the Rangers. This admission was followed by a more significant scandal in 2013, when he was implicated in the Biogenesis scandal. He is one of the most celebrated and also controversial figures in the history of the sport due to his remarkable talent and a high-profile doping scandal.

While this 1995 Donruss card is not an official Alex Rodriguez rookie card, it has the “Rated Rookie” distinction and is an early card of this all-star.

Did You Know?  When Rodriguez broke into the big leagues full-time with Seattle, he completely shattered the historical notion that shortstops were light-hitting defensive specialists. In 1996, at just 20 years old, he put together a historic campaign, winning the AL batting title with a blistering .358 average while smashing 36 home runs, driving in 123 runs, and leading the league with 141 runs scored.

In 2001, Rodriguez signed a record-breaking, historic 10-year, 252 million dollar free-agent contract with the Texas Rangers. While the team struggled, his individual production reached stratospheric levels. He averaged 52 home runs and 130 RBIs per season during his three years in Arlington, capturing his first career AL MVP Award in 2003 and solidifying himself as an unstoppable offensive force.
