Harold “Hal” Newhouser, often called “Prince Hal” or “Hurricane Hal,” was a dominant left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, primarily for the Detroit Tigers, whose career spanned from 1939 to 1955. Newhouser was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992 by the Veterans Committee. His uniform number 16 was retired by the Detroit Tigers in 1997.
This is generally considered his primary and most significant rookie card in a widely distributed set. It’s part of the iconic 1948 Leaf set, known for being the first post-war set with color. The #98 is a short print (SP), making it scarcer and more valuable.
