Robinson Canó is a former MLB second baseman whose career is a complex mix of generational talent and significant controversy. Known for having one of the most effortless and “pretty” left-handed swings in baseball history, Canó was a perennial All-Star and a key part of the New York Yankees’ 2009 championship.
Canó’s legacy is heavily complicated by two major suspensions for Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs).
2018: Suspended for 80 games after testing positive for furosemide (a masking agent).
2020: Suspended for the entire 2021 season after testing positive for stanozolol. These suspensions cost him millions in salary and essentially ended his chances of being a first-ballot Hall of Famer, despite having the statistical resume for it.
While his MLB career effectively ended in 2022, Canó has refused to stop playing. In his early 40s, he has reinvented himself as a global baseball ambassador and a dominant force in international leagues. He is also a co-owner and player for the Baseball United league in the Middle East, aiming to grow the game in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
