George Earl “Storm” Davis was a right-handed pitcher whose 13-season career (1982–1994) was defined by two things: a knack for being on winning teams and one of the coolest names in sports history.
Two-Time World Series Champion: Davis earned rings with the Baltimore Orioles (1983) and the Oakland Athletics (1989).
The “Perfect” Fifth Starter: His A’s teammate and ace Dave Stewart once called him the best “fifth starter” he’d ever seen. In 1989, Davis won a career-high 19 games for the World Champion A’s.
Postseason Experience: He pitched in three different World Series (1983, 1988, 1989). He was the winning pitcher for Baltimore in Game 4 of the ’83 Series.
After retiring, Davis transitioned into coaching. He has served as a pitching coach in the minor leagues (notably for the High-A Hickory Crawdads and Double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp) and has spent significant time coaching at the high school level in Florida.
