Did You Know?  Most players see their careers wind down in their late 30s, but Franco defied biology entirely. In 2001, at the age of 43, he returned to the Major Leagues with the Atlanta Braves after a stint playing in Mexico and Japan, transforming into a crucial, highly productive bench piece for Bobby Cox’s division-winning squads.

Franco spent five seasons in Atlanta during his 40s, routinely batting over .290 while providing elite veteran leadership. His intense, legendary fitness regimen—centered on heavy weightlifting, flexibility work, and a strict diet entirely free of sugar, alcohol, and fried foods—allowed him to maintain the physique and reflexes of a man 20 years his junior. He became a beloved clubhouse oracle, proving to a young generation of Braves players exactly what it took to achieve ultimate professional longevity.
