Did You Know?  On April 20, 2006, while playing for the New York Yankees’ cross-town rivals, the New York Mets, Franco etched his name permanently into the deepest chapters of baseball history at Shea Stadium.

Stepping into the box as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning against San Diego Padres powerhouse reliever Scott Linebrink, the 47-year-old Franco launched a towering, game-winning two-run home run over the left-field wall. The dramatic blast made him the oldest player in Major League history to ever hit a home run, breaking a record previously held for decades by legendary pitcher Jack Quinn. Franco would play until he was 49 years old, finishing his historic major league run as the oldest position player to ever step onto a diamond.
