Danny Tartabull was one of the premier power hitters of the late 1980s and early 1990s, known for a compact, powerful swing that made him a constant threat in the middle of the lineup.
While he played for several teams, his peak years with the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees solidified his reputation as an elite RBI producer. His best overall season came in 1991 with the Royals, where he hit .316 with 31 home runs and led the American League in Slugging Percentage (.593).
Following his 1991 breakout, he signed a massive 5-year, $25.5 million deal with the Yankees, making him one of the highest-paid players in baseball at the time. Between 1987 and 1993, Tartabull averaged roughly 27 home runs and 94 RBIs per season, despite frequently battling injuries.
Outside of baseball fans, Tartabull is widely recognized for his guest appearances on the hit sitcom Seinfeld. Danny is the son of José Tartabull, who played nine seasons in the Major Leagues (mostly with the Red Sox and Athletics) in the 1960s. This made them one of the notable father-son duos in MLB history.
