Originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1969 out of Georgia Southwestern State University, you saw Correll get his first cup of coffee in the big leagues with the Atlanta Braves in 1974.
Correll stepped into his most significant playing window in 1975, logging a career-high 213 at-bats across 77 games for Atlanta. He showcased respectable pop for a backstop, launching 5 home runs and driving in 19 runs.
Though playing in a backup capacity behind Biff Pocoroba, Correll maximized his time at the plate in 1977. He smacked a career-best 7 home runs in limited action, recording an impressive .436 slugging percentage.
Before the 1978 campaign, Correll moved over to the Cincinnati Reds, where he spent three seasons serving as the primary defensive insurance policy and backup to future Hall of Famer Johnny Bench.
This 1975 Topps card is Correll’s official standalone rookie card. It features a bright, clean profile shot of him in his classic lowercase “a” Atlanta Braves cap, framed beautifully by the set’s iconic bright blue and green two-tone borders.

Did You Know? When Vic Correll was traded to the Atlanta Braves in 1974, he was handed one of the most terrifying jobs in professional sports: catching future Hall of Famer Phil Niekro. Niekro’s signature knuckleball danced so unpredictably that it routinely baffled hitters, umpires, and catchers alike. Correll developed an excellent rapport with the star right-hander and became his primary “bodyguard” behind the plate.
