Lansford debuted in 1978 with the California Angels, finishing third in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. Over his career, he split time between three franchises, consistently producing from the right side of the plate with a highly recognizable, deep-crouch batting stance.
- 1981 AL Batting Champion: Hit .336 with the Boston Red Sox during the strike-shortened 1981 season to claim the batting crown.
- 1989 World Series Champion: Served as the veteran captain and starting third baseman for the dominant 1989 Oakland A’s team that swept the San Francisco Giants.
- All-Star & Silver Slugger: Named an AL All-Star in 1988 and won a Silver Slugger Award in 1981.
California Angels (1978–1980): Came up as part of a talented young core. He had a breakout sophomore season in 1979, hitting 19 home runs, driving in 79 runs, scoring 114 times, and helping the Angels secure their first-ever AL West division title.
Boston Red Sox (1981–1982): Traded to Boston in a multi-player deal that sent Rick Burleson to the Angels. Lansford immediately paid dividends by winning the batting title in his first year at Fenway Park.
Oakland Athletics (1983–1992): Acquired by Oakland in exchange for Tony Armas and Jeff Jones. Lansford spent the final decade of his career in Oakland, transitioning into a key clubhouse leader. He hit a stellar .336 in 1989 (finishing second in the batting race to Kirby Puckett) and stole a career-high 37 bases that same season to anchor the top of Tony La Russa’s lineup.
