Did You Know?  While Jones tore up the minor leagues to reach Atlanta, his true introduction to the global sports landscape occurred under the intense spotlight of the 1996 World Series against the New York Yankees. At just 19 years and 180 days old, Jones stepped onto the grass of Yankee Stadium for Game 1 and delivered a performance for the ages.

In his very first plate appearance, he launched a deep two-run home run off left-handed starter Andy Pettitte. He followed that up in his next at-bat by crushing a towering three-run blast off Brian Boehringer. Jones became the youngest player in Major League Baseball history to hit a home run in a World Series game, eclipsing a historic record held by the mythic Mickey Mantle since 1952. His breathtaking multi-homer debut catalyzed a blowout Braves victory and immediately announced his arrival as a generational mega-star.
