Christopher “Chris” Andrew Sabo was a professional baseball player who had a nine-season career as a third baseman in Major League Baseball from 1988 to 1996. He was known for his hustle and was a fan favorite, recognized for his flat-top haircut and “Rec Specs” glasses.
Sabo played for the Cincinnati Reds (1988–1993, 1996), Baltimore Orioles (1994), Chicago White Sox (1995), and St. Louis Cardinals (1995).
He has a variety of accolades and awards including National League Rookie of the Year in 1988. A three-time National League All-Star (1988, 1990, and 1991). World Series Champion with the Cincinnati Reds in 1990. In his rookie season in 1988, he hit .271 with 11 home runs and 46 stolen bases. His most productive season was in 1991, when he posted career-highs in batting average (.301), home runs (26), and runs batted in (88).
Sabo was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2010.
