Rafael Ramirez was a professional baseball player who primarily played as a shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1980 to 1992.
Ramirez made his MLB debut on August 4, 1980, with the Atlanta Braves. During his time with the Braves, from 1981 to 1986, he was a regular at shortstop, often noted for leading National League shortstops in double plays. Ramirez continued his career with the Houston Astros, playing for them from 1988 until his final MLB game on October 3, 1992. His strong hitting for a shortstop earned him an All-Star selection in 1984.
Over his 13-season MLB career, Rafael Ramirez played in 1,539 games. He accumulated a career batting average of .261 with 1,432 hits, 53 home runs, 484 RBIs, and 562 runs scored.
