Allie Pierce Reynolds, nicknamed “Super Chief”, was a formidable right-handed pitcher known for his blazing fastball and clutch performances, particularly for the New York Yankees during their dynastic run in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Reynolds was a key figure in the Yankees’ incredible string of six World Series championships in seven years (1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953). He compiled an outstanding 7-2 record with a 2.79 ERA, often pitching in crucial games and earning wins or saves in the clinching games of three series (1950, 1952, 1953). Perhaps his most famous season was 1951, when he became the first American League pitcher to throw two no-hitters in a single season.
Like many players whose careers began before or during World War II, the immediate post-war sets (1948 Bowman) served as his first major, widely distributed baseball card.
