Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso, known as Minnie Minoso, had a distinguished baseball career spanning several decades and leagues. He is celebrated for his talent, baserunning, and for helping break color barriers in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Minoso’s rookie season in 1951 was outstanding, batting .326 and leading the American League (AL) in triples (14) and stolen bases (31). He finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting and fourth in AL MVP voting. Throughout his career, Minoso was a consistent offensive threat and a strong fielder. He is a 9-time MLB All-Star (1951-1954, 1957, 1959-1960), 3-time Gold Glove Award winner (1957, 1959, 1960), 3-time AL stolen base leader (1951-1953) and led the AL in triples three times (1951, 1954, 1956).

Minoso played for several MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox (multiple stints), St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Senators. He spent the majority of his major league career with the White Sox, who retired his No. 9 jersey in 1983.

After his regular MLB career concluded in 1964, Minoso continued to play and manage in the Mexican League until 1973. He made highly publicized brief returns to the White Sox roster in 1976 and 1980. His last MLB appearance was on October 5, 1980, making him the second player in major league history to play in five different decades.

Minnie Minoso was posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 24, 2022, after being voted in by the Golden Days Era Committee on December 5, 2021.

This 1952 Topps card is one of Minnie Minoso’s true rookie cards. The 1952 Bowman Minnie Minoso card #5 is also one of his rookies.
